Phantasmagoria Spring Break 2023

The idea behind this concept is the fluid yet disconnected present that allows us to be in an ever-present mode of the erotic (thanks to the internet and social media) and the very physical present (living in the world of gravity). Its Mind/Body split in the ecstasy of the moment.

The day to day life slips in and out of the erotic while ever-connected to the mediated landscape around us. Thus, Emily Silver’s Felt Phantasmagoria, an installation using painting, sculpture, neon and felting absorbs and regurgitates a cacophony of imagery. It’s an imagery of attraction and repulsion, the push and pull, the cut-up, of all that surrounds us daily. Large vinyl sceneries form a theatrical backdrop, and an image laden carpet leads the viewer into this organized chaos to operate within.
